Sugar Beach

It’s the end of summer here in Toronto, while summer does officially go through until the middle/end of September, labour day is the unofficial end of summer. With everyone heading back off to university, I’m lucky enough to FINALLY, have the majority of my friends all home in the city full time!!!! Which means that labour day isn’t a said weekend any more and I will continue to wear white because that’s how I roll… (lol did I just say that’s how I roll?).  Because we are continuing to keep summer alive as long as we possibly can, I wanted to share my thoughts and tips for a day spent at Sugar Beach!

There are of course a few things to keep in mind if you are heading out to spend a day at Sugar Beach. Unlike the beaches on Toronto Island or at The Beaches (the neighbourhood, not the actual beach, even though there are beaches in The Beaches…) Sugar beach is right in the heart of downtown Toronto. Being in close proximity to the downtown core means that there are a few city-specific things to keep in mind. The primary one is that there may be homeless people camped on or near the beach. Don’t let this deter you from going as it’s a busy beach with lots of people from all walks of life, it’s just something to remember. The second thing to remember is that it’s a very small beach, meaning that you need to get there early to get some chairs and a good spot! We arrived at 11:30 and already the front spots were taken and we got the last two free chairs.

How to get there:

The beach is located right next to the Chorus Entertainment building, the closest intersection would be Queens Quay and Lower Jarvis Street. Erin and I both commuted in on the Go-Train, met at Union Station and then walked to the beach. If you are from the city or staying in the city, it’s obviously either an easy walk, TTC, Uber, or car ride to the beach. If you are from the outlying burbs do what you normally do to get to Union by transit or drive!

Snacks/Water/Washrooms:

There are water fountains located next to the beach, and there are a number of restaurants close by! There is also a Loblaws right across the street which you can stop to stock up on some supplies.

What To Do:

Chill, hang out, take pictures! It’s pretty chill and very pretty for pictures!
