Month 4! We’ve made some noticeable changes and I’ve used up one of the 3 remaining oils! Very happy with the current progress. The biggest change this month has been that I’ve organized my skincare by colour so it has a lovely colour gradient, as well as added in some new products as the end of my current supply is drawing near.
My shelf is looking a little bit over crowded because I added my new buys in (I was too excited to leave them out) so I have some doubles of toners and serums for the moment but within the week things will be used up and the shelf will go back to it’s normal capacity.
The other thing that I’m looking to change with my shelf, is I want to add a small jar to hold all the small tubes, tools as chapstick that are either falling over atm or don’t stand up nicely. Hopefully, I’ll get that in by next month so everything looks a bit more organized.
Going forward into the warmer months, I’ve really got to focus on using up some of the suncreens. I have two different tinted ones, a sports one, one oil control and one everyday moisturizer hybrid. It’s a bit much. Given the warmer weather and the increasing UV index, suncreen is now a mandatory part of my daily routine (sometimes in the winter I don’t leave the house so some days are skipped) as I’m outside as much as possible as soon as the weather jumps above 15 degrees. Hopefully, I’ll have an empty or two by the end of the summer as well as some reviews on suncreens because I know they are really difficult to find the perfect one.
As I’ve made the shift into clean beauty, I’ve become cognizant of products on my shelf which are clean and which are not. As well as of those clean vs. not clean products, what are the products that I gravitated towards the most prior to my awareness. Interestingly enough, the products and resulting brands that I’ve been gravitating towards are clean brands! Woot! Thankfully, this means that I don’t have to find all new products and the few that aren’t clean I will happily finish up and replace!
What I’ve Used Up:
Sunday Riley U.F.O Ultra Clarifying Face Oil
THIS. holy sh*t this product was a nightmare to use up, as you guys know I already don’t currently have a strong affinity for face oils and this oil is not hydrating, doesn’t smell amazing AND the smell lingers.
In terms of an acne treatment, I personally don’t feel like this is it. I didn’t really notice an improvement in any spots that arose throughout the month and it also exacerbated my hormonal breakouts instead of calming them down.
Rating: 3/10
I LOVE some of Sunday Riley’s products like Tidal and Ice but this oil is just not it for me. I think if you had incredibly dry skin and needed some form of acne treatment this might be nice because the oil would help(?), but for me it just didn’t work. Not on my “repurchase” list.
Price: $$$
This oil is not inexpensive but it did last a long time, it took a solid 3 months of twice a day use to finish up the last third-ish of the bottle and I was really trying to use it up by using as much as possible per application.
Estee Lauder Idealist Serum
I LOVED this serum when I first started using it, the texture that it leaves on your skin velvety smooth and gives you a flawless base for makeup. When I first got it, I was also wearing a lot more makeup and hadn’t yet made the change to a clean beauty routine. Now that I’ve made the switch, this product won’t be repurchased but was well loved while I was using it.
Rating: 7/10
I docked one point because it’s not a clean product which I’m trying to learn more about and focus on. It’s also a very heavy product which will clog your pores if you are sensitive and don’t properly remove.
Price: $$$
Estee Lauder overall is an expensive beauty brand (which is why one should always purchase it on sale) and this product is no exception. In terms of price vs. longevity, this product goes REALLY fast. When I first got this product, I used up half the bottle in about two months with almost daily use. It’s really difficult to justify almost $100 CAD for a product that will be gone in a few months, especially when there are similar products (still sold at Sephora) for less that last longer and still get the job done.
