Alright, ladies and gentleman, I am here to reveal to you the secret to the best-grilled cheese. We are talking a drool-worthy, Papa Mumford classic recipe. Grilled cheese is simple, easy and when done right a surprisingly down to earth crowd pleaser! Everyone loves comfort food!
Let’s start with the bread: Any sliced bread will do, choose what works for you and tastes good with cheese! We personally use a light rye bread at home.
Your cheese: again any that you like will do. My favourite has always been an aged cheddar because it keeps it’s flavour when melted and does not get overwhelmed by the bread and butter.
Now in terms of technique, even if you are doing fancy Pinteret grilled cheeses, it’s very much the same.
You first must butter one slice of bread on only one side. Place the buttered side down onto your hot (medium heat) frying pan. Slice your cheese and place on bread with slightly more cheese in the middle. Butter your second slice of bread and place buttered side up! Wait 3-4 minutes until the cheese has begun to melt (if you are in a hurry cover your pan with a lid it’ll make the cheese melt a little faster). Carefully flip your grilled cheese. It should be a lovely golden colour, leave for another 3ish minutes (maybe even shorter) and then it is perfect!
Tricks to ensuring perfect grilled cheese each and every time is to keep your heat low. Don’t rush your grilled cheese, slow and steady ensures perfectly melted cheese and evenly toasted bread.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know if you have any favourite recipes or even grilled cheese variations!

I love a provolone on sourdough combo!
Grilled cheese is one of those staples that will never go out of style. The gooey-er the better.
