I’ve been to Singapore a lot, more than most other places in the world, which I feel makes me somewhat of an expert on being the absolute most touristy. However, not everything that I do is touristy, and as such, I thought that I would share some of my favourites from my most recent trip!
I’m going to start off with what is probably my favourite new discovery from this trip, courtesy of Raden, which is Atlas. Atlas is a 1920s themed bar located near Bugis MRT stop (very convenient), it is everything you would expect from a Gatsby inspired bar, fit with gilded art deco doors and everything. While you can get away with wearing blue jeans, it’s a really nice place to dress up in cocktail attire because the decor is so over the top you won’t ever look overdressed.
Another one of my favourite places from this most recent trip (again thanks, Raden) is Lantern, located on the roof of the Fullerton Bay Hotel in the CBD. The view of Marina Bay Sands and the Arts and Science museum is spectacular, plus the glass of champagne is HUGE always a massive perk.
Moving around the bay, a super touristy place but also a great shopping destination is Marina Bay Sands. There are a couple different things that you can do in MBS at any given time of the day, but my suggestions are as follows: 1) Shopping, there is an insane number of shops at MBS; 2) Eating, there is a hawker centre, as well as, restaurants (100% recommend Long Chim for Thai inspired Street Food); 3) Clubbing at Ce La Vie, you can also eat here but it’s fun for a slightly “extra” night out;
4) The Gardens by the Bay, both during the day and at night. The gardens are a completely different experience at various points throughout the day, if you want to experience the skywalk and cloud and garden domes then day time is a must, and if you want to see the gardens lit up like something out of Avatar then night time is when you want to go.
CHIJMES is always a must see whenever I am in Singapore because, a) it’s gorgeous and b) it holds sentimental value. CHIJMES or the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus is a restored and converted convent for girls that now hosts a number of restaurants and bars. Again you can go both night and day for different experiences.
The Botanic Gardens are another touristy place to visit but if you have never been then you must go at least once, even it is for the Crazy Rich Asian references. It’s best to pick a cooler day as the garden requires a lot of walking out doors and not all the paths are in the shade. You can also walk through the Orchid Garden and see an old Black and White up close.
P.S. Cafe Dempsey Hill is arguably one of the most Instagrammed spots in Singapore so beyond the all day brunch you have to come here for the ‘gram.
Emerald Hill is the final spot to check out as it is full of Peranakan Shop Houses. The former shop houses are beautifully preserved, colourful and a part of Singapore’s multicultural history!
