When running around trying to figure out what I wanted to make for my accessory, I kept bouncing between making a belt or a bracelet. When I was getting the supplies I needed to make the blouse and the print, I came across “Corner Squares” aka. The leftover material from bolts of fabric. From there the idea completely changed I kept thinking about the bandana’s that Amanda Steele wears as a choker. The corner square had more than enough fabric to create the choker.
Making the chocker was half of the assignment, I needed to find a way to incorporate some unusual materials into my accessories. To get inspiration, I looked at the project gallery to see what my other classmates had designed. From there I found some ribbon (still pretty common) and a red shopping bag handle that matched the red of the cloth and the ribbon. The shopping bag handle ended up layered over the ribbon and the fabric to create a multi-dimensional “piping” down the middle.
Below, is my product costs and a mock-up of bulk production and retailing.
